eBayAnd Why We Rarely Sell There Anymore!Let me start by saying this is NOT a gripe page about eBay as we have done very well on eBay over the years. We started selling on eBay in June of 1997 and thought eBay was one of the greatest things we had ever come across. People communicated with each other and were extremely helpful in identifying items and finding things you wanted. Trading of items, the old fashion barter system way was a way of getting something you wanted while giving something to someone else that they wanted. As time went by eBay decided to change some rules and it upset a lot of people. Some sellers decided to go to other venues to sell their products only to find out that eBay still had the best game in town and most if not all soon returned. EBay's idea of making things better was "change". Change is not necessarily a good thing. So, more and more changes started rolling out and at a much faster pace. Communication between users was brought to a screeching halt! Now, all communication must go through eBay and they decide if they will forward it along or not. As you are probably aware eBay is no longer a private company and is now traded on the stock exchange. So naturally they have to show a profit for their shareholders so their main interest is the bottom line and not the buyers or sellers. Consequently, fees have gone up far beyond anyone's expectations, they limit communication between buyers and sellers, they arbitrarily state what can and cannot be sold on their site while telling you what price to start it at, all the while saying they are just a venue only. It appears that their primary focus is now directed towards Power Sellers that sell the big ticket items that generate the most amount of revenue. We were always very proud of our feedback rating. We have 1867 positive feedbacks and at the lowest point we had a 99.7% positive feedback rating which we thought was pretty good. Again eBay changed the rules and the fact that we had worked so hard for all those years to build a good reputation is for naught. Now eBay only counts what has transpired in the last 12 months. So, theoretically, if we were unscrupulous sellers and had a ton of negative feedback all we need to do is wait a year and start over. We had a serious illness in the family and listing items on eBay was not a priority. So because we hadn't sold anything on eBay in over a year our feedback rating has dropped to 0%, that's right zero percent feedback rating. What about the other 12 years? EBay, without knowing it, has actually done us a favor. We started this website and have met some wonderful buyers and have had some wonderful sales. We continue to offer personalized service and will communicate directly with you in a prompt and polite manner. We welcome your business and to those who have already bought from us, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We hope you will refer your friends and relatives.
