~ Has glue residue from previous private bookplate removed from inside
front cover and two small stamps inside back cover of previous owners.
Tight binding with no pages missing. Normal shelf wear with slightly
bumped corners. Cloth boards have worn thin in just a few places along
spine but does not detract from appearance.
Has two small ink rubber stamps that read this book is 25 cents per
week. We don't believe this was a library book as it does not have any
of the normal marks associated with a public library books but was
possibly offered as a private rental. |
Additional Information:
In 1939 both Stackpole Sons and Houghton Mifflin almost simultaneously
released unexpurgated editions of Mein Kampf. Stackpole Sons was just a
little earlier and states in their book, "The first complete and
unexpurgated edition published in the English language". Shortly
thereafter, Houghton Mifflin also licensed Reynal & Hitchcock
to
publish an edition.
Stackpole Sons and Houghton Mifflin engaged in a copyright fight with
the Second Circuit Court of Appeals ruling against Stackpole in 1939.
Stackpole was ordered by the court to cease further sale of its
translation, and to remove their books from bookstore shelves.
The Stackpole printing was limited to just a few months and
approximately 12,000 copies hence its scarcity today. Stackpole
appealed but still lost.
Even though the printing was short lived it should be considered the
"true" First Edition of English language Unexpurgated Editions. These
little known facts about Stackpole make this a very rare version.
This autobiography of Hitler sets forth his political philosophy and
his plan for German conquest. Mein Kampf is probably the best written
evidence of the character, mind and spirit of the world's most famous
and notorious dictator. It outlines a doctrine of German racial
supremacy and Hitler's ambitions to annex vast areas of the Soviet
Union.
The original First Edition of Mein Kampf printed in 1925 in German was
required reading as a textbook for the German youth and a copy was
given to each newly married couple.
