- These glasses have clear lenses and focus and work properly. The
adjustment screw turns
easily and the slide goes in and out without difficulty.
There appears to be old heavy tape covering the body which may or may
not be original to the glasses. These appear barely used, with minimal
wear.
The cloth bag that has protected these glass is old but we are not sure
if it is original to the glasses. |

Additional Information:
Binoculars were used primarily by the military in the early days and
even as Opera glasses for a while. These glasses were probably used in
a military situation especially if you consider the tape covering what
is probably solid brass. The tape may well have been put on at the
factory or shortly thereafter by the original owner as it does not look
recent and was probably used to cut down on reflection.
These French glasses were probably made around the late 1800s or early
1900s. It is highly possible that these glasses were used in either or
both the Spanish American War and World War I.
These glass by Lemaire are marked with the traditional Bee and say 65
Made in France on the underside of the middle bar. (Please see a copy
of an early 1900 advertisement that we have included for reference
only, not included with the purchase.)
Both top lens pieces say Lemaire FABT and then have the Bee emblem and
below that says Paris. There is a number, probably a serial number, on
the under side of the top bar that reads 22363A. There are no other
markings on this pair of glasses.
