Additional Information:
Meissen has been a name associated with the finest porcelain ever made
and continues to be such today. The artwork of this piece is
magnificent and exceptionally detailed.
This is a hard to find compote especially in this large size. This will
make an extraordinary addition to your Meissen Blue Onion collection.
There are two
impressed
bars across the crossed swords on both the bowl and the base. This
supposedly indicates that there is some kind of factory flaw in the
design however, we have carefully examined both pieces and can find
absolutely nothing wrong with either piece but felt we needed to
mention it for accuracy.
Both the bowl
and the base
have a cobalt blue mark under glaze in addition to the crossed swords
however they are illegible on both pieces. There are incised or
impressed marks on both pieces. They appear to be: the base 540, and
the bowl 43 and 77 followed by what looks like a "Y" indicating the
year 1972.
This compote
will arrive at your home clean, ready to use, display or give as a
gift.
